Crocs and Tree Climbing Don't Mix

My 9-year-old daughter broke her left wrist several weeks ago. Both bones. Displaced. After the rush to the ER and then into surgery, her arm was placed into a splint wrapped in lots of fluffy stuff. I thought for sure she'd be put into a hard cast at her first follow-up visit to the orthopedic surgeon, but he merely wrapped some neon orange casting tape around the entire filthy mess and left it all on for another two weeks.

A trip to the doctor's office is the perfect time to ask your emotional mother if you can clip gaudy monstrosities onto your earlobes. She'll say YES! and then offer to buy you ice cream.

At the second follow-up (over four weeks after the injury . . . has it really been that long?), she was placed in a short cast made of lightweight WATERPROOF material. Oh, happy day! She can now take a bath and wash her hair by herself. She'll stay in this cast for 3 to 4 weeks, and then should be good to go. The x-rays show both bones in good position and remodeling nicely.

Dinner last night: heavenly halibut, cous cous, peas

Awe. She even had to have surgery? Poor thing! I hope after the cast comes off she won't ever have any problems with her arm again! I don't think her mom could bare it! ;)

I had no clue there were waterproof casts now!

I say yes to many things when I feel bad for my kids too!

Glad she's recovering. My sister broke her arm cheerleading in junior high...right before we went to the beach. Poor girl had to suffer in a cast in 90 degree temps and couldn't even swim!

Glad to hear the bones are knitting so nicely. A bath and shampoo done by herself will be a treat. Once they learn how to do it by themselves, having to have help really bothers them. ;o)

LOVE her ear bobs. LOL

I'm glad to hear she's on the mend! I remember breaking my arm one summer and how disappointed I was to not be able to swim. She must be sooo happy there are waterproof casts these days.

don't believe the waterproof garbage. Once it gets wet, it stinks something fierce. It's kind of like a mix of wet dog, body odor and rotting cheese.
